David Marquis Founder of The Activist Heart

David Marquis has been an activist, teacher and performer for more than 50 years.

Social Activism

As a social activist, he spent years as a teacher and guest lecturer throughout Dallas, and wrote I Am A Teacher. He performed this immensely influential play for over 16 years, in 40 of the 50 states, as well as the Kennedy Center.

Environment

As an environmental activist, he founded the 118 acre Oak Cliff Nature Preserve in Dallas, and has consulted with the Texas Conservation Alliance since 2011.

Human Rights

As an advocate for human rights, he has traveled to South Africa, the Philippines, El Salvador, Pakistan and India. He also co-produced a documentary called In Remembrance of Martin for PBS and the Martin Luther King, Jr., Center for Nonviolent Social Change.
